Robert Stewart , Caretaker

I am a School Caretaker at Clyde Quay School and have worked there for over 20 years.

· I started there as a cleaner and later became the school caretaker.

· This is where my children went to school.

· Over the years I have become part of the school community.

I have worked on many special projects in my time at Clyde Quay school. These are but a few of the things I have done in my time. They are not your normal day to day tasks such as clearing rubbish and fixing stuff around the school.

· Painting huge murals throughout the school.

· Installing the children’s artwork on the Waharoa.

· Native plantings, landscaping and beautification of school grounds.

Not just a job but a labour of love, where I get to support the children in developing healthy minds and bodies. I have had the privilege of organising, encouraging and building confidence in children through my passion for Table Tennis.

· Winning Gold and Silver at the TTT

· Teaching younger children how to play TT during my lunch breaks.

· Ensuring everyone gets a chance to play.

· Setting up tables, mending bars, arranging tournament rosters.

Clyde Quay has a reputation for having some of the top Table Tennis players.

These are just a few of the things I am proud to be a part of and why I am a school caretaker. It’s more than just a 9 – 5, five day a week job it is being part of a school community where in my way I can help the next generation.
